The Silent Sister
by Diane Chamberlain
This novel was good, but predictable. The expectation was that the brother, Danny, would have a more active role; however, he was a static character throughout the novel. The only thing he did do for readers was to create a bit of the suspense toward the end of the novel.
The idea of loyalty was prevalent in this novel throughout many of the characters, such as the father, Jeannine, Grady, Charlie, and Celia. The characters gave a feeling of love toward the protagonist, Riley, was touching.
Spoiler alert! Readers expected the shooting of the music teacher to be an accident; however, this was not the case. Thus, the plot twist was unexpected.
Finally, the 'adoption' information that the mother told Verniece did not ring true for readers because if the the parents had decided to keep the information from Riley for the rest of her life, why on earth would the mother tell a total stranger about it?
