The Prestige by Christopher Priest BOOK SUMMARY In the end, this novel was interesting. Members agreed that it was difficult to get into the story. In fact, one member read about 1/3 of the book and was going to give up; however, she rented the movie and ended up returning to the novel. Thus, the movie improved upon the book. Because the first 1/3 of the book is background information that is what makes it difficult for the reader; however, once Angier's diary entries begin, the novel comes together. There is an important item to note about the contrast between the novel and the movie. The author of the novel ingeniously wrote the book as a story within a story; however, this is not present in the movie. The premise behind the book [cloning and telepathy] are very interesting topics. Add magic to the mix and the novel really is good. | Meeting Attendance Karla Beth Cheryl Lori |
