The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Book and Movie Website As the new year started, we had 10 members at the Sept. 2012 meeting. Because the novel has been made into a movie, everyone had comments about the novel. One member compared The Hunger Games to a Japanese novel Battle Royale. He stated that the book/movie contain similar ideas--fending for self and fight to the death. Topics that were discussed during the meeting included control, sacrifice, symbolism, and survival. The topics of control and sacrifice were pulled together when Katniss was the Mockingjay--the symbol of freedom for the districts. Freedom from the controlling government; freedom from the child sacrifices that occurred each year. | Meeting Attendance Karla Maggie Lori Cheryl Mel Debi Kathy Don Sally Jadeen |
