How has technology influenced your life?
Is it a positive thing? OR a negative?
Do you think that advancement in technology is a good thing or a bad thing? Why?

Your initial post should reflect deep critical thinking and reflection on this topic.

For this session, you MUST reply to TWO (2) posts.

Technology these days is a huge influence on everybody's lives. In my opinion I would definitely say that technology has a huge influence on my life. I always have my phone attached to my hip and feel lost if I don't. I think social media is awesome because everyone can stay in touch and know what's going on even if they are just sitting at home alone. Although social media is a great way to stay in touch, it can also lead to many problems. Bullying is a huge problem in the world today and most of the time it leads back to social media. Technology can also be bad because people can access so much information on a person by just using the internet. Advancements in technology could be a great thing if everyone learns their limits. If technology gets to advanced, everyone will be living like the human in the movie 'Walle'.

I agree completely when you say your phone is attached to your hip. I always have my phone on me and I'm always on it. I completely forgot about the way that bullying has changed with technology advancing. I feel like people don't even bully people in person anymore, not that it's a bad thing that face to face bullying has been reduced, but it's bad that it has moved to the computer. I like how you used what we learned in that video where the guy learned things about people just by looking at their social media pages. I also like how you referenced "Wall-e". If technology gets that advanced, I do think that society will be in big trouble.

Your post was very relatable. I too feel that I'd be lost without my phone. It would mean not having contact with many people. I agree that social media may also be causing problems as well. I believe that the problems fall more on the users rather than the networks themselves. Writing that people should know their limits is also a good comment. I also agree that there should be a limit as to how far one should go on a social network or even on the internet in general.

I completely agree with what you said about the cell phone and cyber bullying. I mentioned cell phones in my post and I said bacily the same thing! My phone is always next to me and I feel lost without it. I also agree with you and Cole about bullying online. Like Cole said, I don't think that people really bully in person anymore, it's mostly through social media websites.

Technology currently has a huge influence in my life. I'm constantly on my phone texting, checking social media, playing games, and looking on Pinterest and Wanelo. I think some aspects of technology in my life are positive but I also think some are negative. I love having a quick way to stay in touch with everyone but I also feel like I rely on technology way too much. I think that technology advancements are going to cause problems for society as we produce newer technology. We're able to access so much information online and sometimes its things we shouldn't have access to. I think people will become too dependent on technology, more than we already are now. I think technology makes our lives easier but I also think it makes us lazier and less personable.

Hi Kasey, nice response! I liked your blog post because you stated things that I didn't really think about at all. For example, you talked about the "laziness" problem that is getting continuously worse and worse. Technology does in a way make us less personable, because sometimes people do take things way too far and steal other people's ideas (plagiarism). However, I do feel as though technology, the internet in specific, gives everyone a free opinion to express how they feel on specific topics (Freedom of Speech!). Also, I agree that technology could possibly cause problems for a society in the future, but it could also be of great use for people. I feel as though many people only think of the internet or cell phones as technology, but I think of other topics as well. For example, there are new cars out that are able to stop stop or "hit the breaks" if it is not safe to drive. Like if there may be another car driving, or someone walking in their blind spot that a person may not see. I my opinion, technology can sometimes be amazing, especially when looking past the internet.

Kasey,
I most definitely agree with you when you said that some aspects of technology in your life are positive but also can be negative. I feel the exact same way. Even though the internet is an easy way to stay in touch with friends and family, I agree with you again when you said we are replying way too much on it. It's changing the world in many ways and those ways aren't all positive.

I also think that technology is a huge influence on my life recently. Once I got my cell phone I never put it down. I agree with what you said about how it is very quick to get in touch with your friends too. Like Alyssa said, I think that the laziness is getting much worse, especially in our generation.

Overall, I feel as though the technological advancements made over these past fifteen or twenty years have come just in time to take over my generation as a whole. Ever since I was a small child, I can remember watching T.V. on "Disney Channel" and "Nickelodeon" almost every day after school. As I grew older, I began playing games that were sponsored by "Disney Channel" on a computer and even "instant messaging" my friends through "A.I.M." at only the age of nine. Facebook eventually became very prominent in my life. However, I would consider my phone to be one of my most important material and technological items right now. I know that I myself, along with many other teenagers around my age, are unable to leave home without their cell phone. I know I freak out and start panicking when I cannot find my phone. Teens are constantly updated by the newest gossip through texting, Facebook, and Twitter. I don't think technology is necessarily good or bad. I feel as though, depending on how a person looks at it, it may go either way. I love technology for allowing me to keep a close loop with my friends and family whether online or over the phone. In addition, I feel as though technology is great for my school work. It broadens my research and allows me to type rough drafts up in an hour or two at the most (rather than handwriting an entire essay). Personally, I have had mostly positive experiences dealing with technology throughout my life. These are just some reasons why technology are good and convenient for me. On the other hand, I do feel as though it can be very negative. Cyber bullying, identity theft, plagiarism, and hacking are all created and or made easier through technology. Although I've personally never experienced cyber bullying, I know students who have really been brought down by it; because teenagers rely so heavily on what people think of them, bullying, even over the internet, can really hurt someone. Teenagers will go as far as committing suicide. In addition, while some students may not feel as though plagiarism is a huge deal, it is illegal and can result in expulsion from a college or university. Depending on how one looks at it, technology may be helpful or scary, but it will always be powerful.

I believe this post was very strong. You explained the significance of teenagers and their cellphone and even how they will panic or freak out over losing it. It is true that our generation today is becoming more dependent on technology. The internet is a way of connection for most people in our modern society. Without the constant updates we would feel as if we were crippled compared to others who were not. It has been a bandwagon effect that has taken over our generation of people. And although there are many negatives that can be seen through technology, you state that it is a powerful tool. That can suggest both the positives and the negatives that come from technology.

Technology is not just a tool anymore; it is necessary to function in everyday life. Gone are the days when only a select few had cell phones and welcome in the day where you could hardly find a single person without a smart phone. Technology is everywhere and in everything we do. I think an easier question to answer would be how hasn't technology influenced your life? In it's own way, the abundance of technology is both positive and negative. Technology can be used as tool for learning. It has made research so much easier. On the other side of the coin, technology has impaired people's communication skills, can be used as a weapon to hurt others, and has overall made people lazy. I know that we have all heard our parents say, "When I was your age, I actually had to talk to people." People today are sometimes too depend on their technology. Along with the positives and negatives, I think that the advancement of technology is both good and bad. The good is that there will be more tools and outlets for people to use, and the bad is that an already technology dependent society more dependent on technology.

This is a very good assessment on technology today. I like the point you made about it being hard to find someone who doesn't have a smartphone. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have a smartphone. Also, I agree that technology has made society extremely lazy. We are too dependent on it to help us. And my dad says that to me all the time when I'm always texting on my phone, but I personally don't think it has affected my communication skills.

Cole

Technology has come a long way in just this past decade. Technology has effected my daily life in both positive and negative ways. It has made things easier, like communication and getting homework done. Sending a quick text to my dad letting him know that I won't be home right away is a lot easier than calling him, and typing up an essay is a lot easier than writing it. But as much as technology has helped me, it also has had negative effects on me. For example, I'm basically attached to my phone. If I'm not always texting someone or on twitter, I almost feel like I'm out of the loop, like I'm missing something. The advancement of technology is a great thing because it helps the world in so many ways. It improves medicine and it makes travel and a lot of other things easier.

I'm the same way when it comes to my phone! I wake up in the morning and check every tweet I missed and text back every single person because I don't want to miss out on anything! I like what you said about technology improving medicine because I didn't think about anything outside of my phone and laptop when I wrote my response.

I agree when you say technology has come a long way in the past decade. When we were little, cellphones were few and far between and now they are a steeple of everyday life. I feel the same way when I'm not constantly refreshing my twitter feed or texting my friends. It's like something is missing.

Technology is the reason we are the dominant species on this planet. The advancement is what differentiates us from monkeys. Without technology, our powerful minds would go to waste. Technology should have no other view other than positive. Only those who abuse it reflect the negative side. I personally believe it is positive. Technology has made life a convenience for not only me but also people all over the world. The advances in medical technology save lives every day and we are only getting smarter. An example can be from my shoulder surgery. In the past they would have had to cut my entire shoulder open just to perform. Technology has advanced since then and my procedure only required 4 small incisions. That had made my recovery much faster than in would have been in earlier years. So I do not object to the advancement at all. I am eager to see what new invention is next in the future.

Hey Brian, I really liked your response. I think it was nice how you included a personable example. I thought it was kind of comical when you compared us to technology. However, I don't think we necessarily need technology in order for our minds to become more powerful than they already are. There were thousands of intelligent men and women who lived in ancient times when technology did not really exist. Also, I completely agree with your statement saying that, technology only becomes a negative when people abuse it (hacking, plagiarism, cyber bullying). In addition, I didn't really think of the medical world so I thought that was also a good point. I, too, am eager to see what new technological inventions are created in the future!

Technology is a major influence on a lot of people’s lives, mine included. Like a lot of teenagers, I have an iPhone and I always have it with me. When I come to school and forget my phone at home, I feel disconnected from the world. Having a smartphone allows me to connect to twitter, instagram, tumblr, and Facebook. These social networking sights are a major way for us kids to keep in touch with our friends and know what’s going on. Social Media and text messages are the main ways that I stay in touch with my friends. However, I think that this does have a negative impact on my life as well. I think that I sometimes rely on technology too much. Having access to any information you need can be very handy for school work and personal use. This can make people very lazy and disconnected from the outside world.

I forgot to add this in my previous post…..I think that the advancement of technology can be extremely useful. If different advancements in technology are accomplished, there can be cures found for diseases such as cancer. However, if technology is improved upon, it can only make the problems that I previously stated worse.

Kasey Gallagher

I feel the same way about myself relying on technology too much and also what you said about people being lazy and disconnected. I think its so much easier for people to communicate through social media and texting than it is for them to go out and speak to people face to face.

I decided that I wanted to reply to the whole group for one reply and not just to a direct person. It seems as though we all have the same views about technology. We are all addicted to our phones and to social media. I would say it's just a 'Teenager Phase' but I know a lot of adults who are the exact same way. As technology advances everyone wants to keep up with it and nobody wants to be left behind; it's just how humans are these days.
