Now consider the following:
Why do people now make “bucket lists”?
Do you have a bucket list? Why or why not?
If so, share some ideas with the class?
Online Students - Great job for the discussions during Module 5. I like that you are pushing past the initial question and thinking deeper. Now consider the following: Why do people now make “bucket lists”? Do you have a bucket list? Why or why not? If so, share some ideas with the class?

I have a bucket list, but I'm not going to put everything down that I write. Some of it is personal, as I'm sure you may have some personal goals that you don't want to share.

People make bucket lists to do certain things throughout their life. People make them for different reasons. Some people may make them to make their life more interesting, and others might make them just to have one. I myself don't have one that's really written down, but I have a mental one. The things on my list range from small things, that only might seem cool or interesting to me , to large things that are probably on everyone's list. One of the things that are at the top of my list is to kiss a super model or actress. Another one that is up there is to go on a cross country road trip with some of my closest friends. An item on my list that may only seem cool to me is to go to an Eminem concert with my cousin.

Your list is very relatable to some of my personal goals. I agree that people have their different reasons for their list. This post had reminded my of other activities I plan to do one day myself. We also still have our friend group bucket list which I am excited to fulfill one day.

I personally think everyone should have a bucket list. Our life consist of goal after goal and we aim for a successful happy life. I believe everyone deserved to do everything on this planet that they want to do before their time is up. A bucket list is just the physical list which shows everything that a person may want done before death. It has always intrigued me to learn of peoples bucket list. I have personally made many bucket list of my own. Some smaller with short time goals and some larger. My current "Before Death" bucket list has not been created yet, but I support the idea of bucket lists completely. If I were to make a list, there would be hundreds of options. A big event that I would like to put on my bucket list would be to save the world. Since a child I have always wanted to do so before death. Something more practical would be that I want to be part of history. I have no event in specific that will lead to this, but I would like to do something important to the world before my death that will be remembered years after.

I also have different types of bucket lists. I have a summer one, one with my friends, one with food, one for college, and my life one. It's crazy that you didn't start your before death bucket list yet though. I have so many things that i want to do before I die. I think that you saving the world or being a part of history is a really big goal, but I think you can do something to make that happen and I hope you can check that off your list because that would be a really big win for you.

A bucket list is a personal list of things that a person wants to do before they 'kick the bucket' (die). People make bucket lists for many reasons such as setting specific goals for themselves. In a nutshell a bucket list is a list of things you want to do, places you want to travel or people you want to meet before your life comes to an end. I believe that everyone should have a bucket list. The list doesn't necessarily need to be written down but at least a least in your head. Personally, I have no created my list yet but I have a lot of ideas in my head. Before I die I want to go peach picking in Georgia, get my degree to become a nurse anesthetist, go to a kangaroo zoo and be able to play with them, move down south, and be on TLC's wedding show called 'Say Yes To The Dress'.

Most people would say a bucket list is a tangible list of life goals. Personally, I think bucket lists are kind of silly. A lot of what I've seen over the years, are people making bucket lists to convince themselves that before they die they'll achieve all their goals that they're too lazy to go after in the present. I know that isn't the case for some people. But I think that if you want to do something bad enough, you should do it! I believe in living life in the moment. I won't lie and say that there aren't things I want to do before I die, but I believe in making them happen day to day. A few things I want to do before I die are study abroad (or travel to) in Ireland or Italy, get my PhD, do research on (and maybe find a cure for) desmoid tumors so my mother can live to see me walk down the aisle, get married and have super cute little babies, live in the south, own a boat, and have the life I've always dreamed of!

While I respect your future goals and opinions dealing with bucket lists, I disagree. I agree that sometimes people can be too lazy to make a lit of things to achieve before they die, however, I think it isn't valid to generalize that all people are lazy and will not achieve the goals they set for themselves. Also, bucket list goals do not have to be something that far into the future. Although some may not take place for thirty, forty, fifty, or even sixty years, people may have things on their bucket lists that they can accomplish tomorrow. Death is never predictable, and so in my opinion, I think it necessary to have short term goals that a person can set before dying. One of my short term goals (besides trying sushi as mentioned in my initial blog post) would be going ice skating for the first time. I do, however, like your philosophy of living life in the moment; this idea keeps a person's life eventful and spontaneous. In addition, Devin mentions that bucket lists do not have to be specifically written out; having ideas in your head are good enough. Thus, I felt it contradictory that you mentioned places you want to go, things to accomplish, etc. Being that you have goals you want to accomplish, you have practically thought up your own bucket list although you think they are silly. Anyway, I hope you do accomplish all of your goals!

In general, a bucket list is a list of things people want to do, see, taste, visit, etc. before they pass away. Personally, I feel as though people create bucket lists, containing both short term and long term goals for themselves in order to keep their lives interesting. Many people want to do several things before they die, and I believe that setting goals gives a person something to live for, in a sense. No one ever wants to feel boring. Everyone wants to have something that they can say they've done before dying. I actually created a bucket list myself about a year or two ago for an assignment in my sociology class. At first I looked at it as just another school assignment, but then I started to understand the point of the assignment in itself. Although it had originally required some heavy thinking, I actually was able to comprise a list of several goals to set for myself before "kicking the bucket," or dying. My bucket list includes long term accomplishments such as, traveling to Italy, maintaining honor roll throughout high school and college, becoming a certified personal trainer with a degree in kinesiology, seeing Beyonce in concert (or meeting her would be amazing!), trying sushi, and to go snowboarding. As you can see, my bucket list is made up of short and long term achievements. This is because I have no idea when I will die in my life time; as we've learned in this specific unit, death never happens at a convenient time and so I felt it necessary to have things I can do tomorrow (trying sushi) or things I can do in thirty years (traveling to Italy).

Bucket list are made to compile a list of miscellaneous things that an individual wants to do before they "kick the bucket." I think that people make bucket lists as a way to make goals for themselves. These goals are usually things you wouldn't be able to accomplish in any given day, but more as a way to keep life entertaining. I have never officially written down a bucket list per se, but there are some things that I'd like to do such as travel the world, connect with my family in Italy, learn to speak Italian, and put my feet in every ocean in the world.

A bucket list enumerates things and ideas that people want to do or accomplish in their life before they pass away. Some items on a bucket list could be related to traveling or going on an adventure, learn a foreign language, earn a lot of money, and to accomplish a goal or dream. I think that people make bucket lists in an attempt to make their life memorable so when they are on the verge of passing away, they can remember all the highest peaks in their life and believe that they truly lived. Also, bucket lists, to some people, can be a way of providing meaning in their life by setting goals and finishing them. Having a list of goals can definitely positively motivate someone to be better and to try and live a fuller life. I personally do not have a bucket list yet. However, I do plan on making one when I am older and out of school and have the opportunity to travel and accomplish my goals in the future. Comments are closed.
