Provide a comment on any of the items below. Reference the prompt in your response.

Then, go and REPLY to as many peer's posts as you can before the end of the block.
Your post should be intelligently stated, not just "yo, dude, I agree."
This is an opportunity to participate in an online discussion about a short story. Be intuitive, mature, and thought-provoking in your writing.

1. What is ironic about the title of the selection?
2. How does the author create suspense?
3. What is the mood of the piece to begin? How does it change, if it does? If it doesn't change, why?
4. In what way is the title, “The Lottery”, misleading? Why would the author want to fool the reader by having a tricky title?
5. What do you think the purpose of the lottery is in the village? Why do you think people continue to participate in it? Is it a good thing or bad thing?

We have been learning about close reading and what that means when we are analyzing text.

Using the articles below, you will provide a brief analysis of one. Make sure to refer back to your "close reading" worksheet, which will assist you with academic language.

Once everyone has posted, you will respond to one student's post with your thoughts and ideas about what the student presented. Stating "I agree" is not sufficient. This is a "discussion" in which you need to use thoughtful information from the reading and the student's post.

"The Colomber" by Dino Buzzati

"The Colomber" written by Dino Buzzati takes place in the real world, and its characters are ordinary people, but the story also contains elements of fantasy. This type of writing is called magic realism. Take a moment to go back through the story and identify both realistic and fantastic elements. Explain why your example fits in either the realistic or fantastic element. Be sure to reference the page number where you found your evidence. Your response should be in sentence form and use the standard English grammar conventions.

This blog is for English 10 honors students. I post random assignments here for students, so they can get exposure of how to write and comment online.
